It is 5:12a.m. and I am extremely bored.
I am wide awake too, so sleep is not an option at this point.
In the blog post before this I ripped apart a bulletin posted on Myspace, because it made absolutely no sense. Who wrote the list? I have no idea but they did a poor job of it.
Te definition of love they have in there is so far off from what the definition of love really is.
Here is what Dictionary.com says that love is:
Love
1. A deep, tender, ineffable feeling of affection and solicitude toward a person, such as that arising from kinship, recognition of attractive qualities, or a sense of underlying oneness.
2. A feeling of intense desire and attraction toward a person with whom one is disposed to make a pair; the emotion of sex and romance.
3. a. Sexual passion.
b. Sexual intercourse.
c. A love affair.
4. An intense emotional attachment, as for a pet or treasured object.
5. A person who is the object of deep or intense affection or attraction; beloved. Often used as a term of endearment.
6. An expression of one's affection: 'Send him my love.'
7. a. A strong predilection or enthusiasm: a love of language.
b.The object of such an enthusiasm: The outdoors is her greatest love.
Do any of those really define how any of us are taught to love?
It states that love is the "emotion of sex and romance." The emotion of sex and romance is lust, not love.
Here is what I think love is, and it's not 'never having to say youre sorry,' I know I'm cheesy, but not that cheesy. And this really the only definition I have of love.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices in the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love is patient. That means that love is willing to wait for anything. And not just for a girl to get ready for a date. Love will wait and be there for everything. Patience means, "Capable of calmly awaiting an outcome or result; not hasty or impulsive." Love will wait for sex until after marriage.
Love is kind. Kind is to be of a friendly, generous, or warm hearted nature. Love isn't jealous of each other. It's not boastful, which means it isn't self-centered.
Love doesnt fly off the handle when a little thing goes wrong. It focuses on the good that can come out of the situation.
Love always perseveres. For the longest time, I had not a clue what 'perseveres' meant, but I actually looked it up this morning, and I don't think I was even close to guessing it.
Perseveres means, "To persist in or remain constant to a purpose, idea, or task in the face of obstacles or discouragement."
That to me means when you're walking down the road of love, its not a smoothly paved road. It is a bumpy rocky mess. And on the way there, some of us can trip and fall on our face. All we can hope for is the other person will turn around and help us up so we can keep walking. Just because we stumble and fall, doesn't mean we give up on what we're pursuing.
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13.
I have no idea why it is all in italics. And I can't get it out of it. Oh well.
